Students from the University of Tennessee on a recent float trip down the Mississippi River looking at regional flora and fauna. On one such trip we encountered a nice Gray Rat Snake trying to swim the river, until we interrupted his swim for a close snapshot.  The snake was captured and released unharmed, but minus a few teeth.  Most of the time we concentrate on collecting fish, usually by seine.  Sometimes, especially when stranded on remote sandbars, the students get to try out their medieval engineering skills.  And late at night, when the natives get restless the dance around the Carp begins
